Many schools run their own management information system to manage their data, especially attendance and assessment data. In many recent introductions to the education system, especially around the 14-19 agenda like the diploma, there is a need for a student-focused data management system which deals seamlessly with multiple centres. There is clearly a mismatch between the requirements of these recent initiatives, and the reality that the school and college-based MIS provides. The only vehicle that can bridge this gap effectively is the Internet.
Some MIS providers have attempted to solve the data integration problem through the use of middleware and a central hub within the authority. However, this solution can be costly to implement and manage, and there may be interoperability issues related to neighbouring authorities using different systems.

Different Class Solutions have just launched a brand new product, the CP Toolkit. The product is aimed at suppliers who need to supply data to ContactPoint. It allows suppliers to upload and manage their data in a data management hub as well as transforming it to the correct fomat for ContactPoint. The product will also allow suppliers to send data directly to ContactPoint and then add the results to the data management hub in order to maintain a complete audit.
